Bitcoin (BTC)
Also known as: BTC, Digital Gold, Decentralized Currency
The first and most widely used cryptocurrency, created by Satoshi Nakamoto to enable decentralized digital payments.
Bitcoin is the original cryptocurrency and the most well-known blockchain network, launched in 2009 by the pseudonymous creator Satoshi Nakamoto. It introduced the concept of decentralized digital money and peer-to-peer transactions secured by a Proof of Work consensus mechanism. With a capped supply of 21 million coins and a fixed issuance schedule via halving events, Bitcoin is considered by many as digital gold—a store of value resistant to censorship, inflation, and central control. The Bitcoin network remains the most secure blockchain, supported by a global network of miners and node operators.
