Cold vs. Hot Wallet
Also known as: Offline Wallet, Online Wallet
Comparison between offline (cold) and online (hot) cryptocurrency storage methods.
Cold wallets store private keys offline—on hardware devices or paper—offering strong protection against online attacks. Hot wallets, on the other hand, are connected to the internet (e.g., mobile, desktop, or web wallets) and provide easy and instant access to funds. While hot wallets are convenient for daily use and trading, they are more vulnerable to hacking and phishing. A balanced approach often uses a cold wallet for long-term storage and a hot wallet for active transactions.
