Token Gating
Also known as: Web3 Access Control, NFT Gating, Tokenized Membership
A Web3 mechanism that restricts access to content, services, or experiences based on token ownership.
Token gating is a method of controlling access to digital or physical experiences using blockchain tokens. Only users holding a specific token (often an NFT or ERC-20) can unlock content, participate in governance, or enter gated communities. Token gating is widely used in DAOs, NFT projects, private Discord channels, and exclusive events. It allows decentralized authentication without relying on traditional credentials. This mechanism enhances community building and aligns incentives by rewarding token holders with privileges or perks.
