Bitcoin Maximalism is a philosophy within the cryptocurrency community asserting that Bitcoin is the only truly decentralized, secure, and valuable blockchain, and that all other cryptocurrencies (altcoins) are inferior or unnecessary. Maximalists often criticize altcoin projects as scams, distractions, or experiments with poor fundamentals. Their views are grounded in Bitcoin’s limited supply, robust security, and longest operational history. While the philosophy promotes sound money principles, it is controversial, particularly in light of innovations introduced by Ethereum and other chains in DeFi, NFTs, and governance.
