ECDSA (Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm)
Also known as: Elliptic Curve Signature, Crypto Signature Algorithm, ECDSA Signature
A cryptographic algorithm used in blockchain to sign transactions and verify identity securely and efficiently.
ECDSA, or Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm, is a widely used cryptographic algorithm in blockchain networks like Bitcoin and Ethereum (pre-2.0) for creating digital signatures. It allows users to sign messages or transactions with a private key, and anyone can verify that signature using the corresponding public key. ECDSA is valued for its compact size and efficiency compared to older signature schemes. It ensures data authenticity, integrity, and non-repudiation. Although secure, ECDSA can be vulnerable if private keys are reused or not properly protected.
